How
do I initially set up RiviKard?
Each screen has a Help Button in the lower right.
Create a directory for your data files on your computer or map a drive letter to
the data file directory on your server.
Under Program Options, change the Path to Data Directory to the proper
directory. (RiviKard defaults to the Sample Directory when installed.) Do not
use the sample directory for your data.
Under Master Cardholder Records enter the cardholders for all accounts.
In Master Account Codes create MACs for all the accounts you will be
controlling.
Assign cardholders to the proper accounts.
You can start entering purchases now, however, there are several more options
that make your job easier.
Go to Program Options and select the default account code that will open on the
purchases screen.
Set up Custom Tracking and Categories to make tracking and sorting easier.
Go to Master Account Codes on the Main Menu and enter prefixes for each
transaction. This also helps in tracking.
Read each help window as you are learning the program. Click on the specific
area of the window to open the pop-up.
How
does licensing in RiviKard work?
The RiviKard Server license is based on concurrent users. It is stored on the network
server. The license
is accessed each time a workstation logs on and the number of concurrent
connections is checked. If
the maximum number of connections has been reached, the workstation login us
rejected. If connections are still available the workstation is granted access. What does this mean to you?
Load
RiviKard Server on your network and set up as many workstation as you like without worry of license
violations. The security (license) files will not allow more connections than you have
purchased. A five user license will allow five of your workstations to use the
program at the same time. When the sixth workstation tries to open the program,
a message will appear that "Too many people are already using the
program". Additional users can be purchased as your needs change. A
RiviKard License and Program Serial Number can only be installed on ONE server/computer.
If you intend to use RiviKard on computers
that are not connected to a network with access to a RiviKard Server License
File, you need to purchase a copy of the RiviKard Stand Alone version for
each of these computers.
I
have a licensed copy of RiviKard 7.x. How should I upgrade?
If you are using a shared license file stored on a
network, download and install the latest version of RiviKard Server. Upgrade the
workstations using the workstation setup program on the server. If you are
not connected to a network or your license was originally purchased for your
computer alone, upgrade using the Stand Alone version.
Can
I use the Stand Alone Version on a network?
Yes. RiviKard Stand Alone will use shared data files on a network. It will not
share a license file. The license and serial number for RiviKard Stand Alone
is purchased separately for each computer.
Do
I need to purchase RiviKard even if I have a previous version of the program?
If you have a licensed copy of RiviKard, the upgrade is free.
If you purchased EZ-IMPAC and have not upgraded to RiviKard, the free upgrade
period has expired and you must purchase the new version.
What type of
computer and operating system do I need?
Windows 95/98/2000/XP, or NT Workstation 4.0 or
above. You will also need 32 MB RAM, 6 MB hard drive space, and a VGA monitor
running at least 800 x 600 resolution.
Do I need a copy for every
cardholder?
No. The user license in RiviKard is based on the number of
computers that access the program at any one time, not the number of cardholders.
You may have as many cardholders loaded as you like.

How do I set up
RiviKard Server on a network?:
INSTALLING RiviKard SERVER EDITION:
Make a backup of existing RiviKard server data files.
It is best to install the program from the server console. If this is not practical,
you can use a network workstation.
From the server console;
Run Rivikard Server Setup.exe and install the program to the
directory that will be shared and mapped as a drive. If you are sharing the
entire server drive, install to the root of the drive. If you are not sharing the
entire server drive and are creating a share using a subdirectory, the Rivikard
program must be installed as a subdirectory of the share. (See below). The
workstations must see the program as being installed in the \RiviKard directory
off the root of the mapped drive i.e. F:\RiviKard.
Entire Drive Shared

Subdirectory Shared
Install Server Edition from a network workstation;
Run Rivikard Server Setup.exe and install the program to the \RiviKard directory
of the
mapped drive on your server that will contain the program files. (i.e.
H:\RiviKard). If a mapped network drive is not
available, have your network administrator create one.
NETWORK WORKSTATION SETUP (Shortcut Only):
Will install the initialization files necessary to run RiviKard directly from the server and create an icon on the desktop.
Click on Start, Run. Using the Browse button, click on the mapped network drive that contains the RiviKard Server program. Navigate to the \RiviKard\Setup directory. Click on "RiviKard Workstation Shortcut.exe". Click Open and then OK. Accept all the defaults.
NETWORK WORKSTATION SETUP (Full Install):
This option will install the RiviKard Workstation program files on the local hard drive. Network licensing will be used. (The license file is located on the server). The
server installation must already be complete.
Click on Start, Run. Using the Browse button, click on the mapped network drive that contains the RiviKard Server program. Navigate to the \RiviKard\Setup directory. Click on "RiviKard Workstation Full Install.exe". Click Open and then OK.
How do I register
RiviKard?:
If you have a licensed copy of RiviKard and a current Activation Code (issued
within the last 7 days), return to the RiviKard program and
click File, Register on the Main Menu.
If you wish to purchase RiviKard, add users or obtain a new Activation Code,
fill out the Order Form on line. (There is no charge
for Activation Codes on previously registered programs.) For your protection, payment information is not entered on this form. Please have this
information available if you are purchasing RiviKard or adding users. You will be contacted by phone as soon as possible
when we receive
the request.
How long can I
receive free updates to the program?
If you have a licensed copy of RiviKard, the upgrade is free and no
time limit has been imposed.
If you purchased EZ-IMPAC and have not upgraded to RiviKard, the free upgrade
period has expired (18 Months) and you must purchase the new version.
How
do I restore files from a backup?
Due to numerous requests for a simple way to restore files,
the option was added to version 7.03. It is accessed from the Main Menu. Only Administrators can restore files.
Troubleshooting
File Error 2 Names:
when starting RiviKard Workstation:
The user does not have sufficient rights to the license directory on the server.
The workstation is locating the license file but cannot log in. The user must
have create/modify rights on the server license directory.
I
have installed RiviKard Server and my registration will not work.
Make sure the date on your server is
correct. The Activation Codes are date sensitive. The Activation
Codes are good for seven days from date of issue. You have to use the
code within 7 days or obtain a new code by filling out the Order Form and
requesting "Activation Code Only". New codes are issued free of
charge. On the registration form a
counter has been added. Make sure to set the counter to 0 (zero). Insure the
server installation was done correctly. See How do set up RiviKard for use on a network?
I
have installed the update for RiviKard and the program says it can't find the
license file.
Use the browse button on the message
screen and navigate to the directory that contains the license file. On RiviKard
Server and Workstation it is the directory that contains the server program
files. With Stand Alone it is the \RIVIKARD directory on your local hard drive.
My last purchases do not print on
reports.
The print filters are saved each time you print. If you haven't printed in
a couple of days, the start and stop dates may still be set to the last time you printed.
Reset the filters and try the report again.
I have entered
cardholders but they do not appear on the purchases screen.
Cardholders must be assigned to
a Master Account Code (MAC) before they will appear on the list of cardholders
that can make purchases against the MAC. Cardholders are added to MACs on the
Master Account Codes screen.
I
have a double toolbar on the Main Menu.
The double toolbar is caused by the styles setting. Your colors must be greater than 256 to use styles. If your
colors are set to 256 or less, disable Styles. If your colors are greater than 256
and you have a double toolbar, change the Style file to "Default"
and delete the
"Nostyle.sty" file from the styles directory.
The program
says that my license has expired!
There are a few things that could have happened:
1. The 30 day trial period has expired. Only one 30 day trial period is granted per computer even if the program is removed and reinstalled.
2. The date on the computer has been changed backwards during the trial period.
3. The license files were deleted. Reinstall the program and enter the
registration information again.
4. The directory that contains the RiviKard Server files has been moved, renamed
or you no longer have access rights. Contact your network administrator
and if necessary run the setup program again and re-enter the registration
information.
RiviKard
will not start and displays a message that files are missing.
1. The license files are located on another computer that you do not have access to. Verify your network connection to that computer.
2. The "Start in" directory in the RiviKard shortcut properties is blank or incorrect. Enter the
RiviKard Server program directory in the "Start in" field.
3. The license files were deleted. Reinstall the program and enter the
registration information again.
4. The directory that contains the RiviKard Server files has been moved, renamed
or you no longer have access to the directory. Contact your network administrator
and if necessary run the workstation setup program again from the RiviKard
Server program directory.
Backups
do not work when sent to certain directories.
There was a problem that caused backups to fail if sent to a directory name with
spaces in it. This problem was fixed in v7.05.
I
installed a new version and my data files are gone!
The program is no longer using the correct data directory.
RiviKard 8.x defaults to the 8.x Sample Directory during installation. On the
Main Menu select Program Options and change the Path to Data Files to the
correct directory. Note: If you used the Samples directory when you
installed version 7.0 and did not change the data path, your real
data is still in the Samples directory. RiviKard 8 cannot use the old version
7.x files until they are converted. This will be done automatically the first
time they are accessed. Make sure no one is using the files during the
conversion. Also all computers that access the data will have to upgrade to
version 8 once the data has been converted.
